When can I fly?
You can fly all year round; each season offers different colours and landscapes. To fully appreciate the experience, four flights – one per season – would be the best option. Our advice is to try this experience at least once; it will leave you wanting to do it again.
Why are flights mainly scheduled in the morning?
A hot-air balloon is a fantastic way to fly, but it only takes to the air when the air is most stable, and can only be steered by air currents. This is possible in the early morning, before thermal activity has developed, and in the late afternoon, when it tends to die down. Not all flying areas are suitable for flying in the afternoon; in fact, in Tuscany and Lazio, flights are only possible in the early morning, precisely because these are hilly areas subject to strong thermal activity. In Lombardy and Piedmont, if conditions permit, flying is also possible in the afternoon. This is assessed based on the season and temperatures.
How long does the experience last?
The flight itself lasts about an hour, but the whole trip will take at least two and a half to three hours, from the moment you arrive at the meeting point until you return to the take-off site.
What should I wear for the flight?
Dress for the season, as if you weren’t going to fly; you’ll actually be warmer in the air than those on the ground. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. The hot-air balloon drifts with the wind and you’ll move with it, so you won’t feel any wind on your face. We recommend wearing sturdy boots, as you’ll be walking on fields that are often wet or muddy; please don’t wear heels or flip-flops.
How high will it go?
A hot-air balloon flight involves flying at altitudes ranging from 500 feet to 5,000 feet, but these altitudes are determined by various factors, decided by the pilot during the flight and dictated by the wind conditions on the day of your flight.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day I'm due to fly?
If the weather is bad, the flight will be cancelled; it is not possible to fly if there are strong winds, rain or fog/misty conditions. Flights must be conducted in complete safety, and it is the pilot who, in their professional judgement, decides whether conditions are safe or not.
Are we insured?
Our company is covered by aviation insurance as required by current legislation and is subject to ongoing supervision by ENAC.
Is a hot-air balloon ride a safe experience?
The hot-air balloon is one of the safest modes of transport in the world; it is a very simple craft that does not fly through turbulence, encounters no air pockets, and only takes to the skies when the air is at its most stable. Balloon Team Italia is a company certified and regulated by ENAC to ensure maximum safety for all passengers. Our pilots are all professionals, undergoing regular checks and training to continually improve their skills.
Who shouldn't go on a hot-air balloon ride?
Minors must be accompanied by an adult; pregnant women are not permitted to fly; children under one metre in height are advised against flying as they cannot see outside the basket. Flying is prohibited for anyone who has recently undergone surgery or has serious limb problems; anyone weighing over 110 kg must inform us of this, as it is a very important safety requirement.
How many people are flying?
The balloons are modular in design and can accommodate 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or up to 16 people at a time; the balloon’s configuration is determined by the number of passengers scheduled to fly on that particular day.
We’ll be travelling quite a distance in the hot-air balloon – how do we get back?
The distance will depend largely on the wind; sometimes we cover 30 km, other times just 3 km – every day is different. At the end of the flight, we’ll make sure to take you all back to the take-off site.
What route will we take? Are there different routes to choose from?
This aircraft offers us a real adventure: we’ll take off from one airfield and land at another, but we won’t know where – the route will be determined by the winds. Every flight is unique and different from the one the day before.
Can I fly with just my family or partner?
You can book an exclusive/private flight and reserve the entire hot-air balloon just for yourselves.
